National Scale Earth Observation Project (GIS and Earth Observation)

Thursday, July 14, 2022

Our client, a tier-one global systems integrator, works with the UK Government on advanced satellite earth observation projects. These programmes demand highly skilled and technically exceptional earth observation, data management and GIS professionals.

Problem:

Kinect was tasked with recruiting a large team to undertake a high-profile UK Government project across multiple sites in the UK. The challenge was to fill 110 positions to allow a sharp project ramp-up. Once recruited, Kinect will be responsible for the ongoing payroll, training, and team cohesion, under the technical management of our client.

How we did it:

The first step in any recruitment task is to work with our client to understand the specific roles, skills and experience required. To do this, Kinect actively participated in pre-project workshops and requirements capture sessions.

Then, utilising our extensive candidate database and industry expertise, our specialist recruitment team began by building candidate lists and contacting potential recruits to gauge interest and understand their needs. This approach ensures a good fit between candidate and client and is a vital aspect of ensuring low staff turnover. We then undertook a technical interview process with skills testing and verification.

In resourcing any project, we ensure that multiple candidates are available for each role, providing our clients with a choice in selecting the individual with the best fit for their organisation and culture.

Following our recruitment processes, we supplied a comprehensive list of candidates to our client, with verified work eligibility, skills verification, and salary conditions pre-agreed. Kinect then worked with the client to select the final candidates and build a cohesive team to take the project forward.

The successful candidates are fully supported by Kinect, with a detailed onboarding process, initial training and ongoing development.

Outcome:

The project has been ongoing for over 10 years. It successfully delivers on its targets and has a stable foundation of a cohesive, motivated team, with low staff turnover and a controlled process of staff replacement and onboarding.

Achievements:

  • Thirty-two positions filled within five days.
  • Seventy positions filled within one month.
  • Low project staff turnover.
  • All positions filled across multiple UK locations
  • Excellent client feedback.
